Woodcrafter

Woodcrafter, as it's understood by the residents of Offworld, is any artisan or crafter who works primarily with wood. However, woodcrafters, are more than just simple carpenters. Their job entails making wooden planks, fixing ships, building houses (or the parts for them, like shutters), beds, dressers, chairs, farm implements and much more, as well as decorative wood carvings, statues, lintels and anything else that may need or require specialized carving and manufacturing. If it's made of wood, they likely work with it. Woodcrafters are also one of the few, if not sometimes the only, artisans of wood on the entire planet of Offworld who will even dare attempt to work with the every difficult, incorrigable and troublesome wood products derived from the trunk and limbs of the Mahoy tree. Woodcrafters also, unlike some of the other trades, do not form, operate or participate in guilds. Instead, their loyalties lie with their individual stores, or their employers, and with each other.

So, while each woodcrafter shop closely guards its own internal secrets, they are not at all opposed to working with other similar artisans, like ship wrights, house builders, and numerous other of those who work daily in wood as their chief occupation. Woodcrafter shops also specialize in certain skills, which vary from shop to shop. This in turn generates a fair amount of cooperation between the different shops when one shop is working on a project that requires the particular, and unique skill that another shop specializes in. They also help each other out with problem solving when the issues that one shop is struggling with become too difficult for them to solve. So, while their individual shops do tend to operate with somewhat of a guild like mentality, they also share a common, cooperative spirit, helping to ensure that, not only does each shop succeed in their own unique way, but the craft as well.
