An Initial Starter Pack is the set of supplies each racer who enters the race. A typical starter kit consists of three days worth of food, a spare pair of hiking clothes, a canteen full of water, a water filtration kit, an instruction manual, and a map of the course. Three additional items of the racer's choice is then selected from a nearby resource node prior to the individual completing processing. These are received from a node within the Reception Center called Checkpoint Home. It is also known as "Node Zero" as it is not officially a part of the main course, but is separate from it, and exists prior to the start of the race.
