Basil is a Yandian scientist, and the chief advisor to Grand Admiral Joel Pendleton directly, as well as to Earthfleet indirectly. He follows Pendleton around wherever he goes in the galaxy aboard his flagship, the Prometheus. He also serves unofficially as the ship's chief science officer, using the vast knowledge of the Yandians to assist Earthfleet in its daily operations. Basil also serves aboard the Prometheus under the command of Captain Spire, to whom he also serves in the roll of advisor. Basil is also unique among the Yandians in that, while trained as all Yandians are, he is not a warrior, and prefers to live as a pacifist, and peacekeeper.

He can still kick butt and take names, but prefers to stick to science, and diplomacy to solve even the most difficult situations. Because of this, unlike other Yandians, he doesn't carry a weapon with him unless absolutely needed. Even so, if backed into a corner, he is more than capable of defending himself. Basil's skill and understanding of the high sciences, both practical and theoretical, are a huge asset to Grand Admiral Joel Pendleton, and one that the Grand Admiral both greatly admires, and respects.

Basil's primary reason for being part of Earthfleet, and serving primarily in an advisory capacity, is because he's part of a larger Yandian effort to try and pacify fears within the galaxy about the continually growing strength and power of Earthfleet and the Brayburn Society as they continue their meteoric rise in power, knowledge, and technology. Shortly after the fear campaign, created by the Crassians, put Earth on the galactic radar, the Yandians began a plan to help pacify the galaxy by trying their best to minimize Earth's place in current events. However, as was evidenced by The Battle of Sebius, The Marargon Invasion, The Battle of the Haven, and several other large, and pivotal battles, wars, and engagements, that effort was becoming ever more increasingly difficult.

This eventually led the Yandians to abandon their previous "hands off" approach to pacifying the fears of the countless galactic races, and move to a more hands on, and directly involved effort, with the blessings of the Gayik'Von, that led to a diplomatic mission being dispatched to Sol Space to become the caretakers, advisors, and assistants to Earth, with the end goal of showing the galaxy that Earth is not, has never been, and never will be a threat to the wider galaxy. This proves to be instrumental during the events of Dark Earth where Basil's participation in those events helped prevent a return of the dark, and terrifying fear of Earth that once gripped the galaxy during the events of The Earthfleet Saga.
