The people of the planet of Offworld are divided into two primary groups of people: The 1st Generationals, namely people who were abducted by the controllers and entered into The Race of Offworld against their will, and those who are 2nd generation and beyond, who are the descendants of those 1st generation racers who were brought to the planet. Only those of the 1st generation are allowed to participate in the race, access resource nodes, win the race, or any number of other things. Those of the 2nd generation and beyond are required to fend for themselves, and are considered "dead weight" and despised by the controllers, but also quite often tolerated as they sometimes prove useful to the masters of this world.
