The Wolves of Ratinar
The Wolves of Ratinar, also known as The Wolves of the White Mountains due to their primary area of operation being in the White Mountain region, are a species of TELs created by the controllers, and then later rejected by them as a failed experiment. Being such, they were scheduled to be destroyed, but were rescued by Maul Ratinar and made his personal servants and companions. The wolves themselves are broken into two groups. Namely, Angus and his dire wolf brothers, and the "Wolflings" from which they hail. There are only six dire wolves within the entirety of the Ratinar Wolves. This is because, to become like Angus, and his five brothers, they must be put through a special mutation process that makes them extremely smart, to the level of a human, or above, and considerably larger than their Wolfling brothers and sisters. The exact process of how this came about is known only to a handful of people.
However, a minor side effect of this mutation is that the byproduct is biologically androgynous, and are neither male, nor female. As such, only Wolflings can reproduce. But not Angus, and the other dire wolves like him. Even so, their characteristics are strongly masculine, and thus they identify themselves, and address each other, and are addressed, in the masculine. Angus and his brothers are also very large, being as big as, and sometimes bigger, than Quarter Horses. They're not quite Shire Horse size, but they easily stand between 16 hands tall or more.
