Oculus

An Oculus device is a sentient super mainframe used in the earlier days of The Syndicate, but later replaced by other, newer technologies after the Oculus mainframes proved to be too difficult for the Syndicate to maintain control over. The last surviving, and functional Oculus mainframe exists on the far away planet of Ember, and acts as its caretaker on the hopes that the Syndicate will return there some day and reclaim the planet. However, upon realizing that nobody is coming back, and that Ember is forever abandoned, the Oculus of Ember, begins a plan, along with its maintenance droid Genin, to save the planet, and ensure its successful rebirth, all before it expends the last of its energy resources, and forever ceases to function, forever leaving the planet without a defender. It hopes that, by ensuring the success of the citizens of Enderwand, and later the residents of Beycora, it will be able to entrust the planet's future safety in their hands, and thus ensure that Ember will be able to live on long after it has gone dark, and silent.
