Spacial Distortion Engine

A Spacial Distortion Engine is a device that creates an artificial wormhole through the folding of space. This is a drive, similar to Jump Drive, that does not require descent into, or travel through, The Levels of Space such as subspace, coaxial space, and so on, in order to facilitate FTL travel. This allows almost instantaneous travel across long distances, although it's not quite as fast as Jump Drive, which takes you there instantly, as you still have to travel through the length of the wormhole, which will grow in length as the distance between two destination grows. Spacial Distortion Engines are also very rarely used due to their unpredictable and dangerous nature. Misuse, or other issues, can create wormholes, black holes, singularities, or other more dangerous things. So, while used, they are generally kept for use only in very specific and special situations.
