A Hyperdrive is an FTL drive system that creates a subspace wormhole through which a ship travels to reach its destination. A hyperdrive gets its FTL capabilities by feeding a hyperactive plasma into a specially designed set of nacelle coils that create an unstable, temporary, and navigable subspace wormhole through which the ship passes, thus creating FTL travel.
