Hyperdrive

A Hyperdrive is an FTL drive system that creates a subspace wormhole through which a ship travels to reach its destination. A hyperdrive is essentially a primitive, unstable warp drive that has been fine tuned to take advantage of this instability and the subsequent wormhole it generates to create FTL travel. However, while Hyperdrive was the faster form of travel in the early days of the galaxy, most commonly used by many among The Nine Ancient Races, it was also commonly used among many of the lesser races as well. It was later replaced by warp drive when it became both stable, faster, safer, and more dependable than hyperdrive.
