Plachen is an ancient strategy board game, played often by those among The Dragons of Offworld, and is roughly equivalent to a combination of Chess, and the oriental game of Go. It also possesses many of the same rules and playing pieces as traditional Chess. However, unlike Chess, plachen is considerably more complex than its Terran counterparts. This is because it had twice as many squares, one third more pieces, and four times as many unique moves as Chess, putting it on par with the game of Go in its level of complexity. Due to its complexity, the game itself is incredibly difficult to both play, and to master. Even so, the older dragons love playing it as it helps them keep their minds sharp as they age. But, of all the dragons who play this game on a regular basis, Weyr Master Zek is an absolute master of it. There are few dragons anywhere on the entirety of Offworld who can hold their own against him, including Zek's own grandson, Fallon, who is a youthful, and well respected master of the game himself.
