Clifford Weiss is the captain of the deep salvage submersible, the Calypso. He is a seasoned naval officer and the one time captain of the USS Chicago, a US Navy nuclear attack submarine. He is first introduced to Simon Williams and members of his team shortly after the incident in The Reaping Sea and helps in the rescue of Simon and his team, while also helping them circumvent the Sheffield Republic by ferrying them over to his home base in Subton.
