Subton
The city of Subton is an independent walled and heavily fortified city-state located within Unity imperial territory, and is situated along the main river that flows through the southern territories of both the Unity Empire, and the Sheffield Republic, and empties into The Reaping Sea. It is a fairly modern city with technology and a culture equaling or exceeding that of mid 1980's America. The city operates with three primary industries: Agriculture, industrial, and salvage. The latter is supported by an attached submarine base, and a fleet of 17 submarines, three of which are upgraded models powered by salvaged controller technology.
One of these three submarines, the Calypso, is captained by Clifford Weiss, a former US Navy submarine captain. The city and its government are independent from the Unity Empire, although their territory resides well within the borders of Unity territory. The city of Subton is both a city-state, and a vast city that covers four hundred and thirty square miles. However, only about thirty miles of that is actually inhabited land, which contains the city proper that gives the city-state its name. The rest is fields, forests, factories, oil wells, and much more. The city proper straddles the King's River, a large river system given its name by the kingdom of Forlorian that stretches from the White Mountains down to The Reaping Sea. It is via this river that Subton's ships and submarines move in and out of the continent on their way to hunt salvage to help supply some of Subton's needs.
Subton's total population is about 150k people, spread out between the city proper, and the surrounding burrows and villages that dot the landscape within the protective walls that surround its territories. And, while small, Subton's military is small, numbering just under 5000 people, it is extremely formidable, and possesses powerful weaponry that is far, far superior to anything possessed by any of her neighbors, allowing her to easily keep her rivals at bay, as the Unity Empire has so unfortunately discovered on several occasions. This has allowed the people of Subton to live in relative peace as much as they are able.
