Grog is a Macanorian, and the owner of Grog's Tavern, as well as a restaurateur who is famous across the galaxy. He gets his iconic name from, of all people, the Gin, who began calling him "Grog" after first meeting him because of his broken, almost cave man like speech patterns, making him sound surprisingly similar to the character of "Grog" from Johnny Hart's famous and beloved comic strip "BC". To those who live outside of Sol Space, the name itself may not carry any special meaning. But to the people of Earthfleet and the Brayburn Society, as well as the many alien diplomats and traders who frequent Pluto Station, it is a very special and enduring name to all of them.
