Reactive Shielding

Reactive Shielding is a defensive shield technology used by Earthfleet to protect their ships from limited, isolated or specific dangers to their ships. Unlike normal shielding, which creates a protective bubble around the ship, reactive shielding is deployed as a single shield grid that is protected out and away from the ship over one specific area of space surrounding the vessel. An example comparing this to standard shielding would be to compare a single piece of armor plating vs an entire vessel of them. This particular shielding system isn't used very often, but it does have a wide range of specialized uses where it becomes practical to employ. But for most standard defensive needs, regular defensive shields are most often employed.
