Selt

A Selt is a Gayik'Von unit of currency roughly equal to $1USD. It is primarily used inside of the Gayik'Von republic to facilitate trade, but is also used to a limited degree outside of the republic too. The Selt, as a currency, behaves as a base currency similar to the Yen, rather than a fractional currency like the US Dollar, which has the base currency (the dollar itslef), which is then divided into half dollars, quarters, dimes, nickles, and pennies. The smallest denomination of the Selt is the Selt itself. It's denoted with, of all things, a # sign (the Gayik'Von equivalent) and the amount of Selt being referenced.

So, for example, an item that costs 100 Selt would be denominated by typing "#100". You can also use a large S to denote the currency as well, such as "100S", although this usage is far less commonly seen. Save for a small pool of M2 (ie, physical) Selts, the currency itself is mostly digital, although physical Selts are gladly accepted, and not discouraged at all in their use. The physical use of the Selt is most often seen in the fringe worlds, and colonial planets, where the digital Selt hasn't taken hold yet, or physical transactions are preferred. In the more developed and core worlds, the use of the digital (M1) Selt is preferred and most commonly used, even though physical Selt are accepted.

The Selt is often traded in near parity with most other currencies in the galaxy, with an average exchange rate of 1.2 to 1 with most other currencies. So, using the dollar as an example, 1 dollar would be 120 Selt, or 1.2 Selt per penny. The currency is also very strong on the open market, despite its wide use across the galaxy, and especially within the Gayik'Von republic. This is due to the strong Gayik'Von economy, and its place as a desired currency for trade across the region where the Gayik'Von republic resides.
