Society Space Corps

The Society Space Corps is an organization founded by the Brayburn Society upon the establishment of their first fleet, which consisted of the starship Destiny, and her three sister ships. This organization was formed to separate fleet operations from the Society so that the Society could focus strictly on science. This allowed the SSC to focus on operating their new and growing fleet, and the cornucopia of new technology they'd just been given. This also helped to free the newly formed fleet from direct oversight by the Society, thus removing unwanted bottlenecks in decision making, leadership, and so on, due to the differing focuses of each group. This allowed the fleet to grow on its own without anything holding it back.

The SSC was also placed under the indirect supervision of the Chancellor of the Society to keep tabs on what the fleet was doing, as well as act as an intermediary between them and the Society, allowing the fleet to do what they needed to do to protect Earth, while still staying under the umbrella of the Society. During the reign of the SSC, it saw the creation of the Stellar Class, Earth's first home grown addition to its slowly growing defensive fleet that consisted of 16 Earth designed and built corvettes that were tasked with defending Earth, and Sol Space in general, from outside threats, such as the Juinah. They were later disbanded upon the creation of Earthfleet, as they were no longer needed.
