Sol Space, sometimes also referred to as "Sol Sector", is the area of space directly surrounding Earth and our Sun, and is an area of space one sector in dimension, or any and all space out to approximately 5 light years in any direction from our native Sun. And, while Sol Space exists deep within the boundaries of Gayik'Von space, it is considered entirely sovereign territory of Earth, the Gin, and humans in general. And, while not all races or organizations within the galaxy recognize the sovereignty of this space, most do.
While originally Earth, and our solar system, were considered sovereign Gayik'Von space, it's sovereignty was handed over to Earth as a gesture of friendship shortly after first contact was made between Earth and the Gayik'Von in the Earth year 1804 by Captain Edmond Clayton and the crew of the starship Destiny.
