Henrietta "Hen" Taylor is a Brayburn Society officer and the chief science, communications, and operations officer of the starship Destiny. She also later becomes the wife of Edmond Clayton, who is the ancestor of Mike Clayton. Her rank in First Dawn is Commander. Her personality is stern, with a bit of "Prim and Proper" mixed in, sprinkled with a bit of "nerdy scientist". She absolutely loves the sciences, and is a genius in her own right, but doesn't flaunt it. She's not humble either, as she has no issues speaking her mind. But, that's one of the things that Edmond likes so much about her as she is bluntly honest when such things are needed.

Edmond and Henrietta

The relationship between Edmond Clayton and Henrietta is somewhat complicated. At first he is just another inductee, despite the fact that he was chosen to be their captain, despite her protests to the contrary. Eventually accepting that she has no choice but to accept him as part of the crew, she goes out of her way to help onboard Edmond, and make him the best starship captain that the Society has. This is especially important since he will be key in keeping all of them alive and safe on both their maiden voyage, and all future voyages beyond that. In doing so, this sparks a relationship between her and Edmond that is, at first, somewhat muted, and professional.

But, as time goes along, her deep concern for him turns into a love for her in his heart. However, due to other commitments and duties, he's unable to explore that love at first. This is eventually allowed to grow, and be expressed, after the Destiny leaves Earth on her maiden voyage. Even so, he's still very interested in her even before they leave. So much so, in fact, that the other crew members take notice of this. After returning to Earth, her and Edmond take time out and begin exploring their feelings for each other, eventually leading to them getting married, and having several children.
