Chief Director
The Chief Director, otherwise known as "Agent 1", is the leader of, and highest ranking member of, Section 17, and leads the organization, acting as a CEO of sorts, overseeing its daily operation on the planet of Offworld. His coequal in the Alien Brotherhood is Adramelech and quite often butts heads with the senior demon over many decisions and policies employed on Offworld. His mentor, and the former Chief Director, of which he took over his position from, is Maul Ratinar, of whom he is still good friends with even now, and who he often seeks advice from. The director also has two sons, Arloc and Endimer, both of whom are agents within Section 17.
The Chief Director is also an enigma in Offworld because, due to his position, and title, he has no name. Then again, neither do any of the other agents in Section 17. To become an agent, you must give up your identity, and all of who you are, and become part of the collective that is the foundation of the organization. However, just like his mentor, the Chief Director is one who bucks the trends of the past, choosing to be himself rather than a mindless drone that only answers to the whims of the Alien Brotherhood. This is partially why he is often seen butting heads with Adramelech, a fact that the elder demon loathes.
The Chief Director is also somewhat of an anti-hero in the story, as he serves the dark interests of The Syndicate in the story, and yet secretly plots behind the scenes, with a group of his most loyal agents, to eventually see to the winning of [[The Race of Offworld}the race]], and the freeing of everyone who lives on Offworld. However, in order to defeat the Syndicate, he must pretend to be loyal to them. Hence his seeming contradiction of character. Later on, he, and his remaining agents, work hard to secure Offworld, and help its remaining residents, both human, dragon, and wolf alike, take hold of their new found freedom and exploit it to its greatest measure.
Deep down, despite his hard exterior, and severe personality, he is actually very kind, thoughtful, and concerned about the well-being of others. It's just that, due to his position, it's difficult for him to do such things openly, for fear of exposing himself, and who he is, which would lead to the failure of his long term goal of freedom and prosperity for all of Offworld. It is only after the Brotherhood leaves that he is finally able to being showing some of this. The director also, through the help of the Syndicate, has two sons, Edimer and Arloc, both of whom are genetically modified chimeric organisms in human form created from his DNA. They secretly assist their father in running Offworld, both before the winning of the race, and definitely after.
