Biomechanoid

From ROI Wiki

A Biomechanoid is a technologically enhanced life form created through genetic modification, manipulation and hardware augmentation. They are a blend of the mechanical and the biological and tend to possess above average to superior intellect and intelligence above and beyond those of their natural brethren or other similar creatures. Anyone else on the planet, such as racers, who possess similar technological augmentation, are not biomechanoids, although they are often misidentified as such given the incredible similarities between them, and Technologically Enhanced Lifeform's (aka "TEL"). Only lifeforms created by the Controllers, and possessing no natural intelligence of their own, are true biomechanoids. All others are TELs.

General Info

  • Biomechanoids are not living creatures. They are machines made of flesh and blood with considerable amounts of cybernetic, nanite, and technological enhancements, and imbued with a cybernetic intelligence, designed to make them intelligent, and self aware, and able to perform any task given to them by their masters, no matter what it may be. Any creature that has natural intelligence, regardless if it is cybernetically enhanced or not, is considered a Technologically Enhanced Lifeform or "TEL" for short. Biomechanoids, however, do not come with natural intelligence, or personality, as they have no soul of their own, and thus everything they are is created through intricate and complex programming.
  • Biomechanoids are NOT cyborgs. They are genetically modified hybrid organisms that seamlessly blend both the mechanical and biological into a single, greatly enhanced lifeform just like any other biological life form.
  • The disadvantage that biomechanoids face is that they are unable to mate and reproduce. Some of them do contain a false reproductive ability to simulate the act of conception, gestation, and birth. However, any children they create are not true offspring, and are instead merely small scale clones of themselves who merely mimic real children, but are nothing more than a temporary clone that is discarded as soon as they are no longer needed, nor required. Offspring created in this manner are also incapable of becoming full adult biomechaoids.
  • The degree of augmentation a biomechanoid enjoys depends upon 1) the original mission they were created to perform, and 2) their size, age and/or species. For example, the Dragons of Offworld enjoy access to a whole shopping list of upgrades and enhancements that others, such as Ebenezer and Yurg, do not possess, as their intended purpose and mission do not require them, or their bodies simply aren't big enough to house the additional technologies required to possess or use these technologies.
  • Some biomechanoids are created from a single species, and designed to do a specific job as required by the controllers, such as Yurg and the Wolves of Ratinar. Others, such as the Dragons, are a composite blending together of several species into a single and distinct new creation.
  • Some biomechanoids have implanted technology that allows them to live without consuming food or water, while most others are required to eat, like any other creature, in order to sustain themselves and survive.
  • Each biomechanoid, depending on the species (most are human, but there are others, such as animals, fish, and so on) have a limited lifespan of around 30 (for fish) to 70 years (for humanoid types) before they eventually grow too old and die due to the collapse of their nanite support systems.
  • Since biomechanoids cannot reproduce, adult replacements must be manufactured by the Syndicate, and programmed specifically to do the job for which they are created. Later upgrades can be done to expand their abilities. However, most are programmed to do a single task, and do it well, and not go beyond that duty. This is to avoid the potential for them to become self aware and possibly overthrow their masters some day. Some are given the ability to think for themselves. However, they are also installed with special software to ensure their absolute loyalty, and prevent them from turning against their masters.
