The Romano is a class of Earthfleet dreadnoughts that is famous (or infamous, depending on your viewpoint) among the galaxy for their incredible firepower, durability, and tenacity in a fight. They are one of only a handful of ships that Earthfleet has ever built that the Gayik'Von, and several members of The Nine Ancient Races, actually feared because of how insanely powerful, and outright indomitable it was. The first ship of this class was built in 1985, and the with the entire class serving a total of nearly fifty years before being decommissioned after becoming obsolesced by newer, better starships that were more powerful, and more advanced, than the aging Romano class.

Even so, as one final salute to the class's incredible durability, and battle tenacity, the only ship of the class that still remained in service at the time of the events of Homeworld, the Spartacus, despite being in a stripped down, pre-museum duty state, low on fuel, and at a disadvantage due to its limited supply of still functional firepower, was able to successfully take down the Predicator, a Black Orchid starship that had previously rebuffed all attacks thrown at it by Earthfleet and her allies, and come away from the fight victorious with a confirmed kill.
