Snow is a young dragon of Trond Weyr who, like Fallon, suffers from small stature, being just as small, or slightly smaller than Fallon. Even so, unlike Fallon, she doesn't let her disability get to her, and lives a happy life, despite her disability. She eventually meets Fallon one day in the gallery of their weyr, and after a brief conversation, her fun, chipper, adventurous spirit wins over Fallon. At first he merely "tolerates" her, in respect to his mother. But it's not long before the two form a friendship, which allows Fallon to regain a small part of his lost childhood, and finally smile after decades of being unable to. It is also Snow who brings great hope to Fallon when it is discovered that the reason for her small size is due to a malfunction in the nanites that maintain her body and provide life giving nutrition, as well as healing, growth, maturity, and more.

It is through this discovery that Fallon learns that he too is small because his nanites failed to properly regulate his growth, causing him to be much smaller than he should be. However, it is at this time that he also learns that, unlike Snow, his predicament appears to be intentional because, whereas Snow's small size was due to an error in the programming of her nanites, Fallon's appear to have malfunctioned intentionally. Curious to how this could've been, Fallon researches this and discovers that, unlike Snow, his nanites were intentionally manipulated to keep his size small, while also encouraging the rapid, and extremely early development of his brain, allowing his presently genius intelligence to develop far, far ahead of his present physical age. Determined to learn why this happened, the trail eventually leads back to his grandfather Zek, who reveals that, with the help of Zirem.

Given that he did this to provide his people with a powerful additional tool to help with the saving and freeing of Offworld, Fallon forgives his grandfather for what he did to him knowing that, despite what he did being unethical, it could still be reversed, and easily at that. He then goes on to tell Snow about this, to which she's happy. She then goes through the treatments with Fallon to correct their small size. Fallon agrees. However, he encourages her to agree to having her mind enhanced, so that she could stand with him as equals on an intellectual level. To his surprise, she declines, saying that she wishes to enjoy being who she is for as long as she can be, as she's seen the sadness that such rapid maturity has brought to Fallon. Instead, she wishes for him to let go of a bit of his maturity, and be like her for a time, and be a kid again.

At first Fallon isn't certain he wants to do this, but the sweet, ever joyful Snow eventually wins him over, and softens his heart, further cementing their friendship, while allowing Fallon to recapture a small degree of his lost childhood alongside his new best friend. And, while he's hesitant at first to do this, his mother Kasett encourages him to embrace this, of which he does.
