The great dragon rebellion

From ROI Wiki

The Great Dragon Rebellion is a pivotal event in Offworld's history that occurred approximately one hundred and seventy years after the start of the race and involved many of Offworld's most powerful dragons at the time. The rebellion began in Mongangro Weyr and spread to three other of the active weyrs of the time, eventually leading to a full on uprising of dragon kind against their masters, the controllers. However, instead of winning their freedom, as they hoped they would, the rebellion was instead brutally crushed, with all four of the rebellious weyrs falling in one day, and their dragons scattered across Offworld. Out of the four weyrs that participated in the uprising, only Mongangro was not destroyed, and for reasons that the dragons are uncertain of to this day, as none of the other three rebellious weyrs were spared destruction for what they had done.

However, it was not just the four weyrs that suffered greatly that day. Many hundreds of the dragons who'd participated in the rebellion were executed by their masters for treason, and those that weren't quickly spread the news of what had happened, striking cold fear into the remainder of the Dragon Corps, and bringing the entire rebellion to an immediate and sudden halt. Zek, being one of those who was involved in the rebellion and survived, swore that day that he would not rest until all of his brethren, and everyone else enslaved on Offworld, was set free. However, this time he would not act foolishly, as his elders had, and openly rebel against his masters. Instead, he would foment his rebellion through strategy, intrigue, and deception, operating from the shadows, while moving his pieces very, very carefully to ensure that a repeat of what happened in the first rebellion wouldn't befall himself and those who remained.

Those dragons, who survived the fall of their weyrs, settled in other weyrs throughout Offworld, and tried to go on about their lives as though that great day of darkness never happened. Others, wanting a fresh start, founded the Trond, Morten and Kestrel weyrs, and once again began their journey towards freedom from within their new homes. However, despite Mongangro Weyr surviving the wrath of their masters, it was never again occupied or used as an active weyr. Even so, it is still used, from time to time, by numerous dragons for various clandestine and secretive purposes.
