Pathfinder

The Pathfinder is a sub-class of the Sergenious built for scout duty, much in the same stripe as the LongBow subclass, as well as a generational predecessor to the Raven class shipkiller, of which adopted some of the Pathfinder's advanced designs and operational doctrines that were developed over the high storied operational career of the Pathfinder sub-class. Being such an incredibly successful scout ship design (a welcome relief after the miserable failure of both the Pegasus and Skipjack class starships), the Pathfinder class served Earthfleet (and the rest of the galaxy indirectly) through the remaining years of both the Sergenious and Samurai class Shipkillers, and through a portion of the careers of the Raven and Wolfpack class shipkillers, only finally being retired upon the creation of a newer, purpose built class of scout ships that surpassed the Pathfinder in every measure.

Even then the Pathfinders, despite being technologically obsolete at the time, were kept back as training ships for, at least, another fifty years before finally being fully retired due to their age. And, in that fifty extra years of service, they helped train up many, many crewmembers of the growing Sol Republic fleet, as well as Earthfleet, the Brayburn Society, and the newly christened United Earth, who all eventually joined together under one banner, and began expanding out into space.
