Fredrick (no last name is ever given), is an employee of Susan Wheaton and serves as a footman in her estate at Hollow Manor. He later joins her and twenty one other staff members as they resume the course following the destruction of The Four Kingdoms which leads to the opening up again of the course, allowing racers to once again continue forward. And, even though his original job was merely as a footman, he is a good friend to Susan, and serves as a close confidant and adviser to her in some of her toughest decisions. And, while Jeremy may have been Susan's closest advisor while living in Hollow Manor, since he'd chosen to stay behind, Fredrick took up that mantle upon entering the trail and did it very well. And, even though Susan relies regularly on the incredible wisdom of Arthur Holland, she still trusts Fredrick greatly, and even promotes him to be her second in command of their racing party.

Later on in their journey, they come to the house of Esther, where he, and three others, stay behind, while the rest of the team continues on. He is one of four members of the team, who are commissioned by God to stay at Esther's house, and work either in the local city of Forlorian as wordcrafters and merchants, or else as Esther's help aid, assisting her in the many tasks of the farm. Of the four of them, Fredrick is commissioned with becoming a Merchant's Aide, namely working the counter at a general store in Forlorian as part of his efforts to earn his keep. He works in the city by day, and stays at Esther's place, along with Susan, Arthur, and Fredrick, at night.
